Here to play us out is luxury travel expert and adult performer Glen, making his second appearance for us downstairs in our cool and spacious air conditioned drawing studio! We start drawing at 7pm on the dot, so do arrive 15 minutes early to give yourself time to get your bits together, choose a good seat and order any drinks and/or food at the bar. The door downstairs is on your left as you enter the pub, and we'll be ready for you from 18:45. Good quality essential materials are provided - but you're welcome to bring any of your own - wet, dry, battery powered with a chewy centre. We have everything you'll need: art boards, quality cartridge paper, pencils, charcoal/fixative spray, sharpeners, rubbers, tape and clips. As always with our group, this is a very safe and respectful space for artists and model alike. Everybody is welcome, you don't have to be LGBTQIA+ to join us, but you should probably consider giving it a whirl some time. If you're new please say hi to the organiser, Ed! He's shy ☺️ We zip through some quick 60-second sketches to warm up and get into gradually longer 10 and 25 minute poses, 20 minute break in the middle, some more warmups, and ending on a 30 minute pose. At the end of the session, if you're curious about what other people have been drawing, we lay out the work we're willing to share and take a peek at how other artists responded to the same stimulus. There will be some discrete promotional filming for Instagram at each session, please indicate if you prefer not to appear in the video! It's up to you - see our Insta reels for examples of how we roll. Your tickets are flexible: you can redeem your booked sessions at any time, and if your plans change we can let you join a later event, but if you buy a 3 or 6 pack of tickets, please let me know each week if you plan to attend so that I can keep track of numbers and fill all available seats. Each copy is signed, dated and numbered by hand on the reverse. Enter the world of Softies and Menaces, where schoolboy obsession and abrupt suffering make strange bedfellows, and where tea is pain. Taking inspiration from Britain's longest-running kids comic, The Beano, "Softly Softy" reevaluates the 67 year relationship between Dennis, a violent thug, and Walter The Softy, his chosen arch-nemesis, across 16 pages of cartoon antipathy. "Softy" recontextualises their antagonistic dramaturgical dyad from a queer perspective, revisiting the relationship through collage, superimposition, and the occasional tweak of dialogue to expose the brutality and absurdity of Dennis's mission to punish and eradicate "softness" - vulnerability and femininity. Risography is a simple type of printing similar to photocopying, but with special machines that etch the images on to two drums and can print two colours simultaneously. Where two colours overlap, a third colour is produced. The inks are soy-based, the paper made from bamboo fibre, and no heat is used in the printing process, so all in all it has a much lower environmental impact than other automated methods of printing.
